Brief project description
The Royal Decree of 19/06/2007 concerning hospital hygiene surveillance mentions the obligation for acute hospitals to collect quality indicators relating to the hospital hygiene policy in the establishment. The purpose of a quality indicator system is to trigger actions to improve the quality of care: "what we cannot measure, we cannot improve". The development and validation of quality indicators in hospital hygiene was carried out by a working group involving the Institute of Public Health, BAPCOC and representatives of hospital hygiene platforms. Three objectives were defined:
1) Evaluate the impact of hospital hygiene policy at the national level to provide policy makers with a holistic view of hospital hygiene and trends over time for all hospitals;
2) Judging the quality at the level of each hospital ("accountability") by evaluating the use of (financial) means, the commitment and the efforts of each hospital in the field of the fight against healthcare-related infections; and
3) Contribute to local quality improvement by encouraging hospitals to measure and improve their actions and results.
