Brief project description
- The department Epidemiology of infectious diseases of Sciensano coordinates the national surveillance of infectious diseases from 1983 onwards by a network of microbiological laboratories, further called sentinel laboratories. Those laboratories are distributed evenly in Belgium and they notify and transfer voluntarily the data for well-defined pathogens. Most important tasks of the network are the surveillance of epidemiological trends and the warning of outbreaks.
